‘Katrina is the most focussed actor in Bollywood’

Pappu has not only learnt a few dance steps now but knows what clicks in Bollywood. So he is shedding his chocolate boy avatar, hurling abuses and kissing girls in his forthcoming film Delhi Belly. Maamu Aamir Khan, who is the producer of the movie, has made sure that the transition to a street smart toughie with oodles of derring-do is convincing.

But when it comes to personal choices, he is still a regular guy going by the tried and tested. He was in town to promote a particular line of Levis jeans and he said he is very particular about what he wears, just like he is particular about his roles. “It is not like I will do any movie or endorse any brand. There has to be some striking factor. I didn’t agree to do Delhi Belly just because it was a home production. It was the story line that interested me,” says Imran.

Imran clarifies that the movie portrays nothing extreme and has been given an A certificate by the censor board because of the use of abusive language. But training himself for the script wasn’t a tough task. “I will be honest in saying it wasn’t difficult for me to abuse. I had to stay with some college students to learn a few gestures, but I required no special training for mastering the art of using cuss words. I am no doodh ka dhula insaan who has never abused anyone in his life,” he says, smiling mischieviously.

But does Avantika, Imran’s wife, approve of the bold scenes he has done for the movie? “Avantika and I understand each other well, so much so that she knows where to draw the line between my professional career and my personal life,” he says. This reminds him of the exotic honeymoon that he had to miss since he was too busy shooting for the movie. “But as soon as I get a break we are going for a honeymoon and this will probably be in July.”

Imran feels he is fortunate to have got an opportunity to work with some of the best people in Bollywood. “And they are not just good actors but great human beings and friends as well. They motivate me often and give me an inspiration to work harder. I often hang out with my co-stars. Recently I have been working with Kareena and Katrina and they are so cool to work with. Whenever the director says action, something within Kareena pops up. She becomes so energetic that it lights up the sets. Katrina is the most focussed actor I have ever worked with.”

There have always been efforts to draw a parallel between Imran and Ranbir Kapoor. First, they both are related by blood to two extremely talented and successful film actors, Aamir Khan and Rishi Kapoor respectively, and second they have both attained the image of chocolate boys at the beginning of their careers. But Imran feels Ranbir can be a better actor. “I never watch myself on screen. I hate to see what I look like. I haven’t watched any of my works,” he confesses. “But I have seen Ranbir on screen and he is brilliant,” he concludes.
