It’s not always been instantly easy for South Indian stars to traverse into Bollywood. The latest to join this list is Suriya, who forayed into Hindi movies with Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakht Charitra II last year. Initially, he was to do another Hindi film, but the plans fizzled out. He maintains
that he’s not looking at another Hindi film now, as he’s busy with a couple of prior commitments down south.
Instead, he’s looking forward to John Abraham’s Force and Ajay Devgn’s Singham, which are remakes of his Tamil hits, Kakha Kakha and Singham respectively. “Both, Kakha Kakha and Singham are among my favourite films. And from what I’ve seen and heard of Force and Singham, they seem to be happening films,” says the actor, adding that he’s not pushing to do another Hindi film soon. “I’m happy that my south films are being remade in Hindi. I believe Singham is releasing first. Ajay is a very good actor to watch too.”
If not a Hindi film, the southern star was to do Businessman in Telugu with Ram Gopal Varma. However, he opted out due to the unavailability of required dates. “I had to complete a film with Murugadoss first. But the schedules got extended. So the other film that I had already committed to KV Anand will start anytime now,” explains Suriya. “It’s a medical thriller and I’m playing a double role in it.”
Suriya dismisses any notions that the box-office result of Rakht Charitra II has anything to do with his not doing any other Hindi films. He reasons; “I’ve no reservations or apprehensions after Rakht Charitra II. We’re happy with the response it got from the target audience.”
While Suriya’s not doing any movie in Mumbai, the actor was in the city recently to shoot a commercial for Close-Up toothpaste, which he’s endorsing. The actor and husband of Jyotika, is also thrilled about spending time with his children- daughter Diya and son Dev, who was born last June. “I couldn’t spend as much time with my son earlier, so I’m being a good father to him and my daughter. Taking care of her when Jyotika was away for a few days brought me closer to my daughter,” he enthuses.
