I’ve enjoyed Bollywood since I was a baby: Nadia Ali

Pakistani-American singer Nadia Ali will be performing in Mumbai for the first time tonight.

How has your journey in the music industry been so far?
I believe the fact that electronic music is so male-dominated that it makes a female stand out that much more if they are driven enough. I believe anything is possible with hard work.

This is going to be your first performance in Mumbai. What are you most looking forward to?
I am quite excited to see the audience reactions. It is a very tight schedule as I have to leave the city the next day. So I guess the best I can do is eat around the delicious Indian food.

You performed at Sunburn last year. Would we get to see you this year too?
The experience at Sunburn was amazing. Great energy.. So maybe, if I’m asked for again, why not.

What do you think of Bollywood?
I’ve always enjoyed Bollywood since I was a baby. My parents played movies all the time, so I have always enjoyed a good bollywood film.

What’s next on your mind?
I’m recording my next artist album presently. Well, I have a knack for acoustic, organic music. I definitely have a plan to make an acoustic album at some point and I love world music, especially because I am ethnic myself.

Are you looking forward to collaborating with other musicians...
In 2010, I’ve already collaborated with Armin Van Burren, Dresden and Johnson, Morgan Page, Alex Sayz, Starkillers, EDX, Sultan, Ned Shepphard and Schiller.

What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up listening to lots of eastern and other ethnic music like rock, hip-hop and Caribbean music.

What do you think of the dance music scene?
There is not enough originality these days. Many people just imitate others.

What do you think of new star singers like Justin Beiber?
Beiber is a talented kid, who is over exposed, that happens with every child star unfortunately. Only the few and far between survive this tough business.
