Taarak Mehta Update: Inspired NRI to move to India to participate in the Clean India Drive

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) took the Clean India Mission further by launching a nationwide contest on its digital platforms on November 1st 2014. The same was also announced in two TMKOC episodes during Mehta freeze, with the aim to involve viewers in taking the initiative for a clean and healthy India. The contest was very well received with a whopping number of entries poured in from all over the country.

The same was also appreciated by our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji on social media. “We all know that India is a young country and digital is the youths’ medium. Hence social media is the best medium to connect with the young ones and inspire them. We are now felicitating the winning contestants (20 to 25) from all over India with the Swachhata Sainani title and presenting them with trophies.”

“We were honored to have been given the task of spreading awareness on cleanliness by Honorable Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi.  We, as a team at Neela Telefilms, had decided that we will convert this to 99 invitees. And to do that we had initiated a cleanliness campaign online in a three step process. Response was overwhelming and we received entries in thousands wherein people uploaded pictures of unclean area, work in progress and then clean area. Finally we have selected more than 20 winners from across the country and every week we will be honoring one winner during Mehta freeze in the show,” says Producer & Creative Director Asit Kumarr Modi.

So inspiring was the campaign that Swachhata Sainani Vikas Seth, one of the winners of the contest, shuttled between Kenya and USA but after reading about the contest online decided to move to India to be an active participant. “I request all Indians to keep their premises clean. Automatically the city and then country will become clean,” he says.

Besides digital campaign TMKOC had incorporated a swachchata story in show’s track.  The characters in this story had gone to slum area to teach residents the importance of cleanliness & process of cleaning. Actors of the show also took part in many conclaves and activities to spread better and constant awareness about clean India.
