Slumdog Millionaire wins another award

LONDON: Oscar favourite "Slumdog Millionaire" continued its winning spree by fetching yet another prize ahead of the Academy Awards on February 22.

The extraordinary tale of a Mumbai slum-dweller winning against all odds was named the Best Contemporary Film at the Art Directors Guild Award at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and Batman flick "The Dark Knight" were also the big winners at the award ceremony which was held on Saturday, the Contactmusic reported.

While Brad Pitt's film got the award for Excellence in Production Design for a Period Film, "The Dark Knight" received the Best Fantasy Film trophy.

Honorary awards were given to Production Designer Paul Sylbert for Lifetime Achievement and to iconic filmmaker George Lucas for Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery.

This year five production designers, Ted Haworth, Joseph MCMillan Johnson, Romain Johnston, John Meehan and Harold Michelson were inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame.

John Adams and Weeds set designers of Mad Men and Little Britain USA picked up the awards for design and excellence in television.
