I believe in happy endings, says Katrina

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif says she likes romantic books and believes in happy endings.

"Though I am not an avid reader but I like romantic books. Love is a good thing. At times in love, there are disappointments...one must not keep expectations. I like to be positive in love. I believe in happy endings," Katrina said on the sidelines of a book release by author-filmmaker Pritish Nandy last evening.

After the I-T raids at her residence early this week, this was Katrina's first public appearance at a bookstore in suburban Bandra, where the book on love poems 'Tonight, This Savage Rite' by Nandy and Kamala Das was released in presence of Gulzar, Anupam Kher, Kiran Kher, Meghna Gulzar and Chetan Bhagat.

"After meeting him (Nandy) I got very much interested in his subject of love. Poems are a way of expressing your love. They are so beautiful," Katrina said.

When asked whom she would love to gift the love poems in Bollywood, the actress said, "I would like to give a book of love poems to all the unmarried men."

The actress said she wants Gulzar sahab to pen a love poem on her.

Leander Paes takes acting course for Bollywood debut

If fashion models can become actors and even cricketers can give it a try, then why should tennis stars keep a distance from Bollywood fame and glory?

Well, soon to be seen on the silver screen is Leander Paes who's now planning to give acting a try. Yes, he totally swooned the women with his backhand and brilliant smashes on the court and now, he would romance Ameesha Patel on screen. The film titled Rajdhani Express that would mark Paes's entry into films is to be directed by Ashok Kohli. Paes was being offered films for the past 15 years but it's only now that he has relented.

Just like his game, Paes obviously wants to give this film his very best shot and therefore has enrolled himself in Anupam Kher's acting academy for a three month long course.

Everyone is tight lipped about this project and what is known is that Paes would be playing a common man in a faced - paced plot. Well, that kind of pressure is something he can handle.

Apartment – Film Review

Film: “Apartment”
Starring: Neetu Chandra, Tanushree Dutta, Rohit Roy, Anupam Kher

Mundhra’s “Apartment” reads like a frighteningly disembodied episode, neither passionate nor bloody enough to qualify as a genuine slasher flick, of a television mini-series built around the theme of suburban loneliness. We’ve seen many films on the theme of what Mumbai does to the outsider. This one, by its own subverted logic, shows the outsider, a mentally disturbed girl from rural Maharashtra, creating havoc in a neatly-arrange spick-and-span apartment block somewhere in downtown Mumbai.

Neetu Chandra is the life and death of this almost inert suspense thriller. She acts strange and with reason. Her character suffers from acute insecurities. Neetu makes her home in chic air-hostess Tanushree Dutta’s home and resents the city girl’s debonair boyfriend (Rohit Roy, seeming to enjoy his part).

The build-up is a little too slow for a slasher-movie (apartment gone to the devil!). By the time the payback is on, we are much too distracted by the trivial atmospherics and incidental characters played by guys and women who seem to have been rejected in fashion shows in the first round itself.

The four principal characters hold together the unhurried plot. Anupam Kher as Tanushree’s poet neighbour is an engaging diversion. Other distractions like a tacky item song and intermittent song breaks choreographed like a high-school function, are a huge impediment.

It’s Neetu’s show all the way. The girl knows how to hold an expression without looking like she was doing it for effect. Wish there was more to hold up her performance. Most of the time she performs in a vacuum.

Lately Jagmohan Mundhra made films like “Provoked” and “Shoot On Sight” which had a point to make. In “Apartment” he strolls back into the province of the pointless.
